Hematoxylin is an excellent nuclear stain that is used widely in cytology and histology, two of the most important uses being as a nuclear stain in the Papanicolaou procedure (PAP Smear) for the diagnosis of vaginal cancer and in combination with the contrast stain Eosin Y (H & E Stain), which is the chief diagnostic tool for most other cancers.

Eosin Y is a remarkable bright red dye that benefits a myriad of applications with the effectiveness of its intense color. Hematoxylin is a tan powdered/crystalline compound. Abbey Color provides Hematoxylin with the empirical molecular formula C16H14O6.
