WHAT IS HEMATINE?
Derived from the logwood tree, hematine is a natural dye with a purplish/red/black hue. Hematine is also called hematein and is sometimes referred to as hemateine. Abbey Color is a trusted source for the worldwide demand of hematine dye, as we have steady access to the logwood trees through our sister company, AbbyMex.
WHAT IS HEMATINE USED FOR?
Primarily, hematine is used to dye sutures for the medical industry. To dye the silk required, medical device manufacturers use our HCK S grade of hematine. Other uses include dying of natural fibers such as cotton, wool, and silk for non-medical purposes. For example, hematine was used to dye the coronation robes for various European royalty in the 17th and 18th centuries.
