WHAT IS URANINE?

Uranine is the water-soluble form of fluorescein and is sometimes called any of the following:

  • Fluorescein, sodium salt
  • Fluorescein, water soluble
  • Uranine WSS
  • Sodium Fluorescein

In industrial applications, this versatile greenish-yellow fluorescent dye is used to color automotive coolants (anti-freeze), dying wool and silk, as an Air-Sea rescue marker, ground water tracing dye, soap solutions and the coloring of agrochemicals and fertilizers.
